Kaduna South Local Government football team on Saturday emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Nuhu Ribadu Peace and Unity soccer competition beating Lere local by two goals to nil in the final match played at the Ranchers Bees stadium, Kaduna.
The Tournament was sponsored by the Organization for Peace and Unity Soccer competition among the 23 Local Government Area, LGAs, in Kaduna state.
The man in whose honour the tournament was organised, Nuhu Ribadu told newsmen after the final whistle that he was excited about the competition, describing it as a huge success and a testimony to the fact that hard work always yields positive results.
According to him, the success achieved by the organisers of the tournament is a result of sleepless night within the last six months of the competition.
“I am extremely excited and very happy the way it turned out to be a huge success,”Mr Ribadu said. This tournament is about the youth. It is about the community. it is about all of us. There is something in sports that helps to promote peace and brotherliness”.
Unable to hide his excitement, Mr. Ribadu said he was happy to create the platform that brought the people of Kaduna together to share the moment of excitement together in the spirit of sports to promote peaceful coexistence.
Mr. Ribadu commended the organisers under the leadership of, Muhammad Mamadi and the chair of the main organising committee, Abubakar Abubakar who he said have made their own contributions towards the promotion of peace through the competition.
“I also believe that maybe through this we will go back to our glorious old days where most of the best Nigerian players were produced”.
Kaduna South won the first position by beating Lere local government 2-0, while Zaria Local Government came 3rd by beating Jaba Local Government 6-1 through a penalty shootout in the third place match.
