German giants, Bayern Munich, have announced the appointment of former Barcelona Manager, Pep Guardiola, as their coach new coach starting from next season, June 2013.
The Champions League winning coach will take over from Jupp Heynckes as Bayern Munich coach.
Guardiola left Camp Nou in 2012 having won 14 trophies with Barcelona during his four seasons in charge. He has now signed a deal with the Bundesliga club until 2016.
Guardiola, 41, had been linked with a many top European teams particularly Chelsea and Manchester City of England.
Speculations were rife that Guardiola had agrees with Chelsea owner to join Chelsea at the end of the season when the club will have to pick another manager after the expected exit of the interim coach, Rafael Benitez.
Goal.com quotes Bayern Munich CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, as saying in a statement that he was delighted to have captured Pep.
“We are very pleased that we have succeeded [in appointing] the football expert Pep Guardiola, who was courted by many famous clubs and contacts,” said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
“Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can [help] not just Bayern, but German football, shine,” he added.
