The 2015 Nigeria University Games will be held at the OAU, Ile-Ife.
The Lagos State University, LASU, on Saturday said it would bid for the 2014 Nigerian University Games.
The University’s Sports Director, Ademola Adeiatu, said this in an interview in Lagos.
Mr. Adeiatu said that hosting the game would further develop sporting facilities in the school. The sports director said that although the institution lacked standard sporting facilities, such facilities would be provided if given the right to host. He said that premier universities such as the University of Ibadan and Moshood Abiola University, got most of their facilities through NUGA.
“We don’t have tartan tracks, standard swimming pool and accommodation facilities in the school,” he said.
The sports director added that if given the right to host “these facilities will be provided”.
He said that the University Governing Council had concluded plans to make formal request to the government for the right to host the game. He advised the federal and states government to focus more on developing sporting facilities in schools.
“We cannot continue to talk of youth development without developing what will develop them,” he said.
The last edition of the University Games was held at the University of Benin in 2012 and the 2013 edition will take place at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, in April.
