Berbatov score the first Premier League goal of 2013.
While the table toppers defeated Wigan at the DW Stadium by 4-0, City romped to a comfortable win over visiting Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Paulo Zabaleta, Edin Dzeko and Sergio were the goal scorers in City’s 3-0 win while in the Manchester United duel it was the duo of Robin van Persie and Javier Henandez that got a brace each.
The respective result means United still maintain their seven points lead at the summit of the table.
In other games Tottenham Hotspurs continued their good run with a 3-1 win over relegation threatened Reading.
West Ham also got a hard earned 2-1 win over Norwich City.
Aston Villa on their part put behind the nightmares of 2012 as they were denied victory by Swansea, settling for a 2-2 away draw. Villa had shipped in 15 goals and lost their last three games before the New Year day draw.
In an earlier match, Fulham defeated Osaze’s West Brom, 2-1, with Berbatov scoring the first Premier League goal of 2013 for the victorious visitors.
