The Minister made the statement on Thursday.
Not all sport federations in Nigeria will benefit from the annual grants given by the National Sports Commission, the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, has said.
Mr. Abdullahi said on Thursday morning, during the youth forum organized by the Basketball Federation in Abuja that some federations will not partake of the annual grants from the National Sports commission.
He explained that only the federations that have shown genuine interest in developing their federations will be considered for the annual grants.
According to the minister “Even though it is not a lot of money we grant to federations, I have continued to insist that as from next year, we are not going to give grants to all federations. We are going to give grant to federations who show that they know what to do with the grant.”
“Instead of spreading our meagre resources because we want to carry along all federations, we will concentrate the resources on those who show that they know what they are doing”, Mr. Abdullahi said.
The minister also spoke about a proposed framework for the federations.
“We (the National Sports Commission) are going to set up a framework that will enable the federations win these grants because it is going to be competitive”, he added.
There are 20 various sport federations under the National Sports Commission.
