Super Eagles of Nigeria

Nigeria to know Nations Cup opponents Wednesday

byAderonke Ogunleye

The Super Eagles have expressed their readiness to challenge any team.

The draws for the 2013 African Cup of Nations will be held on Wednesday evening in South Africa.

A total of 16 teams, including host South Africa, have qualified for the competition. The teams are Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, and Zambia.

Nigeria is seeded in Pot 2 of the draws and will surely be in the same group as one of South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, and Ivory Coast.

The Nigerian delegation at Wednesday’s event includes Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi; Secretary of the team, Dayo Achor; and the Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Chris Green.

While talking about Nigeria’s likely opponents in the draws, the General Secretary of the NFF, Musa Amadu, said: “We are not scared of any team or any country, why should we? As you know we have a proposed friendly match in Miami, United States, that shows we are getting ready.”

Keshi has also earlier expressed Nigeria’s readiness to confront any opponent it is grouped with.

Mr. Amadu expressed optimism that the Super Eagle would eventually come top in the group even if they are placed in same group as Ivory Coast or Ghana.
