The newly promoted sides say they’ll do well in the Premier League.

Nembe City Football Club has emerged winner of the National League Season after defeating Bayelsa United, 4 – 3, on penalties. Both teams played 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

The game was evenly balanced as statistics show. Each team commited 13 fouls; Bayelsa United  recorded 3 corner kicks while Nembe City recorded 4.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES after the match, the Captain of Nembe City FC, Pere Kipu, said: “We’re very happy. The club was founded January this year, we are barely a year old and despite all odds we thank God we came out victorious. Its like a local derby we know each other very well”

While speaking further about his team, the captain said: “we have our pattern of play, we make use of the ball well.  But the rain started falling and the pitch was water-locked so we have to change our pattern of play quickly which gave us a late goal.”

Talking about their plans in the Premier League, Pere said: ‘We would like to make our mark in the Nigeria Premier League. We will try to sustain ourselves not to get relegated.”

“We will make a mark so that people that don’t know Nembe City will know Nembe City,” he said.

The captain said his team is not scared of any club in the Premier League as most of his colleagues are Premier League players from other clubs.

“We know what it takes to play in the Nigeria premier league,” he said.

The Coach of Bayelsa United in a post match interview with PREMIUM TIMES said “nobody is happy when you loose a match.”

He accused the match officials bad officiating saying “we were not really robbed but most decisions were bad.”

“The officiating was bad, this is one of the things we find in Nigeria football, otherwise we won’t go anywhere,” he said

The coach said his team would strive to do well in the Premier League and hopefully qualify for a continental competition.

The chairman of the Nigeria National League, Emeka Inyama, expressed optimism that the promoted teams would succeed in the Premier League.

“They are worthy ambassadors of the league. We don’t expect to have them back at the end of the season. The NPL is going to have good teams to play at the end of the season,” he said.

He debunked the allegation of bad officiating during the competition saying “we saw the best officiating of Nigerian football in this tournament, it was fantastic.”

The Super Four League Tournament that Nembe won is made up of the top teams that graduated from the National league to the Nigeria Premier League. Apart from Nembe and Bayelsa, the other teams are Nassarawa United and Elkanemi FC,

Elkanemi and Nassarawa Utd were knocked out at the first round on Sunday.

Despite the loss, all the four clubs still get promoted to the Premier League.
