Super Eagles forward, Victor Moses, should be fresh for the Nigeria vs. Liberia clash in Calabar next weekend as he sat out in Chelsea 4-1 victory over Norwich City in the English Premier League Saturday.
His compatriot John Obi Mikel who is making a return to the National team after almost a year, was however in the thick of action staring for 82 minutes as the European champions continued their impressive start to the season.
John Terry and Ashley Cole, who were both in the news for the wrong reasons during the week, started for the home side, as Chelsea was stunned when Grant Holt drove in a 15-yard shot after just 11 minutes to give Norwich a shock lead.
Chelsea hit back with a Fernando Torres header just three minute later, and Frank Lampard drilled in an 18-yard shot just eight minutes after that, to extend the Blues lead.
Juan Mata set up Eden Hazard to slot in a third after 31 minutes, before Branislav Ivanovic powered in Chelsea’s fourth, late in the second half, to ensure the blues stay atop the Premier division.
Mata has four goals and five assists in the last five games and the stylish Spaniard was the main orchestrator as his side secured a sixth top-flight win in seven.
In other games, Osaze Odemwingie saw only 62 minutes on his return to Premier League action, as West Brom continued their fine start to the season as they overcame QPR 3-2 to add to the pressure on Mark Hughes.
Also Victor Anichebe’s Everton got a point away from home in their 2-2 draw with Wigan.
Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium found a bit of joy, as they returned to winning ways with a resounding 3-0 victory over Sunderland. Goals from Aleksandar Kolarov, Sergio Aguero and James Milner ensured that City ended the week on a high, after a disastrous mid week experience in the Champions League. The Premier League champions had won just one of their previous six matches in all competitions but were fine value for this win.
Arsenal won the derby with West Ham as the Arsene Wenger tutored side eased to a 3-1 victory over Sam Alladryce’s team while Swansea and Reading settled for a 2-2 draw in the day’s other duel.
