The National Sports festival will be held in Lagos between November 26 and December 12.
The Enugu State Government will spend N69 million to prepare the state’s contingent for the forthcoming Eko 2012 National Sports festival holding from November 26 to December 12 in Lagos.
The Commissioner for Information, Chuks Ugwoke, announced the plan in Enugu on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at the end of the State
Executive Council meeting.
Mr. Ugwoke explained that the money would cover expenses during the zonal qualifiers in preparation for the festival and also cater for the athletes during their one month camping and training He said the council also approved N67 million for the construction of outdoor facilities at the Enugu State Sports Council to promote and encourage sporting activities among the people.
The commissioner said that approval had also been given for the payment of counterpart fund owed by Enugu State, since 2009, for Fadama III agricultural programmes. He said money was also approved for construction of health centres.
“In keeping with government resolve to ensure access to qualitative and affordable health care to the citizenry, council approved the sum
of N463 million for the renovation, upgrade and construction of 68 health centres and staff quarters,” he said.
Mr. Ugwoke also announced plans for the relocation of some ministries in the state for effective construction of the state secretariat. He said the relocation would commence on September 17.
