The Senate and House of Representatives are currently amending the Nigerian Constitution.

According to constitution amendment proposals a single six-year term will replace the current double four-year terms for chief executives; but serving president and vice, Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo, and serving governors, will not be eligible for the provision.

Also in the proposal, Senate President David Mark, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; as well Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and deputy, Emeka Ihedioha, will be the first beneficiaries of the life pension, provided they are not impeached from office.

The current constitution only allows life pension for the president and vice.
