Ahead of the September 22 governorship election in Osun State, some residents have taken to the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, to protest a comment by a national leader of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Tinubu on Saturday at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Jimoh Olanipekun, said the state does not have the kind of funds that will interest him.
The Lagos State former governor was reacting to the allegation that he is supporting APC governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, to gain access to the treasury of the state.
“Oyetola is a reliable person. He may be quiet but he is an encyclopedia of finance. He will not take a bribe; he will not steal your money. If he is looking for money, he would have stayed back in Lagos.”
“They may be saying Jagaban, Asiwaju has come to plant someone. I told them, how much do you people have?” he asked.
Speaking to the monarch, Mr Tinubu said: “Kabiesi, I should not say this…Osun doesn’t have my kind of money.”
However, the video of the statement which has gone viral online has generated lots of controversies.
Residents of the state on Monday stormed the streets to protest what they tagged “rude” talk.
