The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ekiti governorship candidate, Kayode Fayemi, has said Governor Ayo Fayose cannot ‘intimidate’ him on the day of election.
Mr Fayemi, a former governor of the state, emerged the candidate of the APC for the elections billed for July 14.
On May 30, Mr Fayemi stepped down as the Minister of Mines and Solid Minerals Development.
According to a report by The Nation, Mr Fayemi cautioned the people of Ekiti not to be intimidated by Governor Ayo Fayose’s alleged ‘threats’ to cause mayhem on election day.
“We will ensure adequate security for voters on election day because if you are not well protected, the election will not be free, fair, credible, transparent, genuine and acceptable.
“Fayose cannot threaten or intimidate anybody on the day of election. Fayose will only be allowed to cast his vote and he will go back to his house in Afao,” he said.
Mr Fayemi, who spoke while on a campaign tour to communities in Ido/Osi Local Government urged eligible voters in Ekiti to come out and exercise their civic rights.
He said he was on a mission to rescue Ekiti people from poverty, misery, bad governance and put the state on the path of good governance, progress and development.
The communities visited by Mr Fayemi include Ifaki, Orin, Ora, Aaye, Ifisin, Igbole, Osi, Ido, Ilogbo, Usi and Ayetoro.
At the campaign tour, Mr Fayemi was joined by the deputy governorship candidate, Bisi Egbeyemi; Ekiti APC Chairman, Olajide Awe; former Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye; former House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Omirin; former House of Assembly member, Bunmi Oriniowo and a senatorial aspirant, Olusegun Osinkolu.
