APC sweeps Osogbo park after massive PDP rally

APC sweeps Osogbo park after massive PDP rally

The South-west rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday in Osun State has led to a taunting game between the party and ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

Following the rally at the Freedom Park in Osogbo, members of the APC on Monday trooped out to with brooms to “cleanse” the park and sweep away the footprints of members of the PDP from the state.

The state chairman of the APC, Adelowo Adeniyi, shortly before the members began to sweep the park, said the cleansing became necessary because the opposition party had “polluted” the venue and the state with propaganda during its rally.

“APC cares for the well-being of the people of Osun and that is why we decided to clean up the mess left behind by the PDP after their rally,” Mr Adeniyi, who led the exercise, said.

Reacting to the event, however, the PDP in Osun fired back by telling the APC that its days at the saddle in the state are numbered.

According to a statement by the PDP spokesperson in the state, Sunday Bisi, the act by the APC only aimed to play down the fact that the PDP locked down the state capital during the rally.

He said the turnout at the rally was a sign that the APC will suffer defeat at the governorship election in the state scheduled for September 22.

“Following the unprecedented gathering of PDP stalwarts and members in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun state for a rally on Saturday, we have noticed an increase in the display of anger and frustration from the All Progressive Congress in the state,” the statement said.

“The APC’s dance of shame continued this morning with their early morning visit to the Freedom Park, Osogbo, venue of the rally to carry out a clownish sweeping of the PDP feet from the venue.

“If the APC is truly serious about this sweeping drama, one will expect that they carry out the exercise from Station Road, Dada Estate, Ayetoro, Fakunle and other locations where several thousands of people who could not get to the Freedom Park as a result of the massive build-up of crowd and traffic gathered to celebrate the imminent defeat of the APC in Osun state.

“While we are not bothered about the display of indolence by those who embarked on these futile attempts, the Osun State chapter of the PDP wishes to remind the APC of the saying that there is no power on earth that can stop an idea whose time has come. The fact is that the APC in Osun state has come to the end of its wits and should be prepared to cry even more as we move towards the September 22nd Governorship election in the state.”, he said.

Mr. Bisi, however, urged the people of the state to “remain steadfast as we prepare to democratically remove the cancerous cells called the APC from the Osun State Government House come November 27th this year.”
