Man arrested in Ogun for raping 13-year-old girl

A 50-year-old man, Joseph Sunday, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping a 13-year -old girl in Ilaro town of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Monday that the suspect ambushed the girl as she went to fetch water.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the suspect dragged the victim to an uncompleted building in Abule Taju area of the town where he had carnal knowledge of her.

“Men of Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 50yr-old-man, Joseph Sunday, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in Ilaro. The victim was allegedly ambushed on her way to fetch water and dragged to an uncompleted building in Abule Taju area of Ilaro where he had carnal knowledge of her,” he said.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested after the girl’s mother filed a complaint.

He said Mr. Sunday owned up to the crime.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence Department for further investigation.
