Head teacher stabs colleague during Lagos college protest

A peaceful protest by teachers of staff schools of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Lagos, on Tuesday turned bloody when the head teacher of the primary school section, Sunday Ogunmade, allegedly stabbed one of the protesting teachers, Gbenga Agboola.

Trouble started when the teachers, who were protesting the casualization of their employment and a 50 per cent reduction in their salaries, barricaded the gates of the schools to stop management cadre staff from gaining entry into the school, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

While the exercise was hitch-free in the secondary school section of the staff school, teachers of the primary school went to the office of Mr Ogunmade, asking him to step out of the school premises.

Mr. Ogunmade allegedly refused.

Some of the teachers allegedly decided that the head teacher must be forced out of the premises.

In the ensuing scuffle, the head teacher allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed Mr. Agboola in the head.

The spokesperson of the college, Adebowale Odunayo, confirmed the incident.

He however directed our reporter to a member of the governing board of the staff school, Sunday Fowowe, to react to the incident.

Responding, Mr. Fowowe said the school management was “handling the matter”
