Workers in the employ of the Ondo State Government will on Wednesday (today) embark on a two-day warning strike to protest the delay in the payment of their three months salaries despite the receipt of the bailout.
The Chairman of the Public Service’s Joint Negotiating Council, Sunday Adeleye, gave the directive for the strike after a meeting between labour leaders and the government’s representatives which ended in stalemate on Tuesday Akure.
The strike is expected to be effective on Wednesday and Friday, given that Thursday has been declared public holiday.
Mr. Adeleye, who led leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to the meeting, observed that the state government was not sincere in its promise to pay July and August salaries as well as May and June salary deductions.
The Head of Service, Toyin Akinkuotu, who led the government’s delegation, expressed government’s commitment to pay workers salaries from Tuesday, but workers observed that nothing had been paid at the close of the day.
The meeting was also attended by the state Attorney General, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, the governor’s Chief of Staff , Kola Adewumi and the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Akin Adaramola.
