After two days of in-house politics, Patrick Aladetoyinbo of the Osupa ruling house has emerged as the Deji-elect of Akure kingdom.
After a selection exercise which ended on Sunday, Mr. Aladetoyinbo was selected ahead of 12 other princes of the ruling house who contested the seat with him.
It will be his second attempt at the traditional stool, having lost to deposed Deji, Adesina Adepiju.
Mr. Aladetoyinbo, who is based in Baltimore in United States of America, is the son of the immediate past head of the Osupa ruling house, the late Pa Aladetoyinbo.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the traditional rites to ascend the throne have already commenced with the Deji-elect’s visit to Chief Asamo’s house opposite the Deji’s palace where some rites were performed.
The Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, is expected to present the instrument of office and staff of authority to the new monarch at a ceremony on Monday.
The last monarch, Adebiyi Adesina, died in 2013 after a brief reign on the throne; and his daughter, Adetutu, has ruled as regent since then.
