The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, seeking urgent action to stem the activities of murderous kidnappers in the state.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that during the past two weeks, kidnappers have increased the spate of their criminal operations in the state.
Worried by the brazen way the gangs are operating, Mr. Fayose in a letter dated May 15, requested Mr. Arase to dispatch a special intervention force to route the criminals from the state.
The letter has been copied to all the other security chiefs in the country.
“It is with great concern that I am appealing to you to help in our quest for a lasting solution to the spate of kidnappings and abduction in our dear state,” the governor wrote.
“The development has created fear in the minds of our people and no meaningful development can take place under such atmosphere.
“As a responsible government, we are taking all necessary steps to curtail and put an end to these dastardly acts, and we believe a special attention from your office on the matter would lead to finding quick solution to the problem.”
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Idowu Adelusi, the governor assured the people of the state that the situation will soon be brought under control.
He cited instances where the police paid special attention to crisis situations in some parts of the country, saying that only recently, Mr. Arase dispatched a special team to Edo State to help in curbing the activities of cultists in that state.
According to the governor, the intervention paid off as no new case of gang war has been reported in Edo State during the last few day.
