The Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has compared President Goodluck Jonathan to the biblical Jonah who failed to deliver God’s message.
Mr. Aregbesola stated this at the Teslim Balogun Stadium during the one-million-man march for change organised by the APC.
The march, which kicked off from Maryland to the stadium in Surulere, saw thousands of Lagosians including the party’s national leader, Bola Tinubu, walk under the hot sun.
“I know the Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers all know the story of Jonah in the bible that failed to carry out God’s assignment and was thrown into the sea,” Mr. Aregbesola said. “Our own Jonathan, when he was born, God sent him to rescue Nigeria but he refused and that’s why his name changed to “badluck.””
He urged Nigerians to vote out the president like the crew members in the boat threw Jonah into the water.
“We won’t throw him into the water, we will send him to his home with our votes,” he said.
Commending the youth, the party’s governorship candidate in Lagos, Akinwumi Ambode, said the APC has proven a point again with the march.
“We will commit this election to 21 days fasting and prayer, we will commit everything,” Mr. Ambode said. “This nation is destined for greatness. If we don’t take time, with the way the naira is sliding, Nigeria will go bankrupt. We don’t rent crowd, we don’t share dollars, you all came here willingly.”
Mr. Tinubu, who was in a happy mood as he danced with singer, Kenny Saint Best, told the supporters to vote for all APC candidates in the coming election.
“Are you ready?” Mr. Tinubu asked. “The day has come. March is here. March for your freedom. This march won’t be a bad one.”
Nigerians will go to the polls to elect new leaders on March 28 and April 11.
