At least two multi-storey buildings located at the Balogun market extension in Lagos Island were gutted early Monday.

According to officials of National Emergency Management Agency officials, the fire started at about 4:36am. The inferno also affected the bolt-up plank structures around it.

The spokesperson for the emergency body in South-west Nigeria, Ibrahim Farinloye, however said no casualty was recorded so far as the fire fighters were working to put out the fire.

“No casualty recorded so far, one cannot estimate the level of destruction in figures right now. Assessment will be carried out later” he told PREMIUM TIMES.

The spokesperson also couldn’t give the number of buildings affected by the fire.
