High Court

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 29-year-old man in an Ikeja Magistrates court in Lagos for being in possession of 589 Permanent Voter Cards.

Lukman Animashaun who resides at No. 12a Itire Road, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of disobedience to law and breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 20 at 7 a.m. at Itire Primary School, Lagos.

He said “Animashaun was apprehended by the police within the premises of Itire Primary School, Lagos, following a tip-off by residents in the area.

“He could not give tenable explanation as to how he came about the 589 permanent voter cards in his possession and all belong to different individuals.”

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 22 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty and in her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He then adjourned the matter until January 12 for mention. (NAN)

He want to sell it as usual. My card suddenly disappeared from Oshodi local government. The card was previously sighted by my brother but the officials will not allow him to collect on my behalf. The officials handling the distribution in Oshodi-ISOLO axis are culpable and should be investigated. There are many cards missing from that zone.

Why is it that most government project or program in Nigeria is always deceptive and gives room for fraud?
I reside overseas I have Electoral card here with bearer`s name, date of birth, address and photograph on the card. Bearer fingerprint and data had previously stored on computer during registration. This make it extremely difficult for someone to sell or give to another person other than the bearer whose photograph and bio data boldly engraved on the card(Electoral Card).Only the owner of the card can use it during election.Though I have not seen Nigeria permanent voters card, but with the report of arrest of a man with 589 card, I guess there`s no photograph on it with absence of adequate bio data on the card.
