Two governorship aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ade Dosumu and Adetokunbo Pearse, have dropped their governorship ambition to support a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.
According to Taofik Gani, who is the Lagos state publicity secretary of PDP, Messrs Dosumu and Pearse have dropped their ambition and are teaming up with Mr. Obanikoro due to the former minister’s passionate bid to win the state for the party.
“Yes, both Mr. Dosumu and Mr Pearse are no longer governorship aspirants” he told PREMIUM TIMES over the phone. Meanwhile, Mr. Obanikoro’s public declaration to run for the Lagos governorship election has been rescheduled to next week Tuesday.
The declaration, which was earlier slated for Friday, PREMIUM TIMES learnt, was moved due to President Goodluck Jonathan’s scheduled visit to the Southwest this weekend.
“In light of latest developments of a scheduled visit by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Southwest and most pressingly, the decision by INEC to resume the issuance of the Permanent Voters Card, PVC, in areas like Alimosho, Agege, Epe, etc, the Koro Campaign Organisation (KCO) has decided to postpone the declaration” Mr. Obanikoro’s spokesperson, Ohimai Amaize, said in a statement.
He said the former minister had answered the call of his people to rescue Lagos State from political and economic bondage.
“We are very confident that based on his overwhelming goodwill among the people of Lagos, especially the downtrodden masses, as well as his impeccable record in public service, he is the best prepared for the job”, the statement said.
The declaration event would be themed “Walk With Me” and is expected to be attended by Mr. Obanikoro’s friends, political supporters and special guests.
