A member of the Oyo state House of Assembly, representing Afijio state constituency, died in Lagos Wednesday.
The report of Femi Adelakun’s death was confirmed by the Chairman of Afijio local government, Olorode Samuel.
When contacted, the Speaker of Oyo state House Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu, said she was too devastated to talk, repeatedly saying, “I am bereaved.”
PREMIUM TIMES understands that Mr. Adelakun fell sick four days ago and was admitted into a private hospital in Oyo town before he was moved to a Lagos hospital Wednesday where he died.
In a statement, the chairman of Oyo west local government, Adesoji Ojoawo, said Mr. Adelakun was a politician who had interest in the welfare of his people and the development of Oyo federal constituency and Oyo state in general.
“Adelakun was a politician that lived among his people in his country home. He was the bridge between us (local government areas) and the House of Assembly as the chairman house committee on local government affairs,” Mr. Ojoawo said.
“He was vibrant and committed to service. So when the news of his death emerged this morning, the whole town was thrown into mourning.”
