‎Lagos under political and economic bondage — Obanikoro

The Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has officially resigned from President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet to pursue his governorship ambition in Lagos state.

In his resignation letter, obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Monday, ‎Mr. Obanikoro said his resignation as minister was to enable him to rescue the people of Lagos from political and economic bondage.

“My resignation is anchored on my passion and my aspiration to liberate the people of Lagos from political and economic bondage and usher the state into a new era of transparency and transformational leadership under an elected Peoples Democratic Party government,” ‎Mr. Obanikoro wrote.

He also thanked President Jonathan for the confidence reposed in him and for considering him worthy of serving as minister of state for defence at a time the country faced serious security challenges.

Mr. Obanikoro, 57, a former senator and ambassador to Ghana, is currently eyeing the Lagos state governorship seat under the PDP. He ran for the post in 2007 on the platform of the PDP but lost to incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola.
