Fire guts 50 shops at Kara market, Ogun

About 50 shops and shanties were on Sunday gutted by fire, which destroyed valuable goods at Kara Market in Isheri, Ifo local government area of Ogun State.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained on Monday. However PREMIUM TIMES gathered that it started at one of the shops in the market around 4:30 p.m.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, who paid a visit to the scene on Monday, described the incident as unfortunate.

The police boss ordered his men to commence investigation into the cause of the inferno.

The command’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the commissioner was received at the market by the Secretary of the Kara Market Association, Mohammed Sani and was accompanied to the scene by the Area Commander, Ota, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Titilayo Kayode, among others.
