The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27 year old man, Tosin Owolola, for allegedly abducting a traffic warden at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The police spokesperson in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, who made this known to journalists, said the incident occurred last weekend.
“The incident occurred when the traffic warden was at his point in Abeokuta and flagged down the man, who was driving his car against the traffic at Iyana Mortuary. The suspect hit the traffic warden and he (warden) fell on the bonnet of the car,” Mr. Adejobi said.
Mr. Adejobi said the suspect kept on driving for another 4 kilometres, with the traffic warden on his bonnet. It took the efforts of members of the public and other policemen on patrol, who were called on distress, to rescue the traffic warden, Mr. Adejobi said.
The man eventually drove the warden into the Kemta Idi Aba jungle.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was heavily drunk.
Mr. Adejobi added that Mr. Owolola was a technician with Ordinary National Diploma, OND, in Business Studies from the Lagos State Polytechnic, and hails from Imo, Abeokuta, in Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State.
Mr. Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, has called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Mr. Ikemefuna directed that the suspect be subjected to some medical examinations before he was charged to court.
“The Commissioner of Police also warned that such acts will no longer be tolerated for it’s the duty of the command to take the welfare of our personnel seriously; and urged the general public to accord adequate respect to all security agents who are being deployed to perform their statutory and/or special duties within the state and in general,” he said.
