The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Rufai Alkali, has appealed to the electorates in Osun State to vote for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyiola Omisore in Saturday’s governorship election.

He said Mr. Omisore’s victory would end the maladministration, increasing poverty levels and decaying infrastructure in the southwest state.

He also said that the election would be a veritable opportunity to remove the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, from office.

Mr. Alkali, a former spokesperson of the PDP, made the appeal in an open letter to the people of the state on Wednesday.

Mr. Omisore, a former senator and deputy governor of the state, is one of the 20 governorship candidates in the election.

“This Saturday, the 9th August 14, you the good people of Osun State have a chance to elect a new governor. It is a veritable opportunity to do away with the tokenism of the All Progressive Congress (APC) maladministration of the last years under Rauf Aregbesola which has brought nothing but misery to the otherwise progressive state,” Mr. Alkali said.

“The nearly four painful years of Aregbesola rule in Osun State, you have endured. In the last four years you have you have a regime of pain and anguish as clearly demonstrated by increasing poverty levels, decaying infrastructure dotting the nooks and crannies of state and general lack of development.

“Never in the history of Osun State has the education sector witnessed so much disorientation nor has it seen the huge number of youth unemployment that has become a major concern for all and sundry.

“Yet, the people of Osun State have had their opportunities continuously frittered away by an administration that pays more attention to the needs of capricious god fathers rather than the yearnings and aspirations of those who entrusted it with their mandate.”

While describing Mr. Aregbesola’s tenure as “a dark spot in the illustrious history of Osun State,” Mr. Alkali insisted that things would not continue this way.

“You, the people of Osun State, have suffered enough! You must now move away from the Aregbesola’s incompetence, lack of direction and the proven dictatorial tendencies of a party whose sole objective is to plunder the commonwealth of a peace loving and hard working people.

“It is now widely agreed that Senator Iyiola Omisore and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) offer the best opportunity for the much desired positive change and progress for you people of Osun State.”

He stated that Mr. Omisore’s pragmatic disposition to issues would ensure that the lives of the ordinary citizens were changed and also erase the depressing and bad memories of shattered dreams Aregbesola had allegedly imposed on the people.

He added, “The people of Osun State must act now through your votes to regain your well deserved position in the national scheme of things and with the active cooperation of President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP, Omisore, through a transparent process, will wipe away your tears brought about by the failures of Aregbesola’s inept administration and usher in a new dawn for each and every one of you in your great and historic state.

“We all know Senator Omisore will create jobs for the teeming unemployed in the state; he will restore the glorious days of education, human capital development, infrastructure, health, agriculture, commerce and industry; transparency and accountability in governance; religious harmony and he will guarantee peace, stability and progress to all the people of Osun State.”
