“We are doing our job professionally and within the confines of our profession” – Osun Police
A socio-political group, De Raufs Volunteer, has alleged that security agencies in Osun State are witch- hunting its members who are campaigning for the re-election of the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola.
The group, in a statement, alleged that security agencies have been unconstitutionally inviting its members for interrogation.
It threatened legal action against the various security outfits.
“It is a known fact that De Raufs Volunteer group home and abroad are law abiding group of people with track records in human rights, business and academics. Moreover, the group has shown beyond reasonable doubt in the past that they are very disciplined and organised in their activities and strategies of non-violence advocacy to return the incumbent performing Governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to office come August 9, 2014. If this is our offence, then, we owe nobody any apology,” Shittu Amitolu, Director General of the group, said.
“The group therefore cannot understand why security agencies will be trailing our members with illegal phone invitations, when the security can send such invitation to the Director General who is well known to all agencies in the state and beyond?” Mr. Amitolu said.
However, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Folashade Odoro, in a telephone chat on Monday told PREMIUM TIMES that the invitation extended to members of the group were done professionally and within the confines of it job.
“We are performing of duty professionally and within the confines of our profession. We are not harassing anyone, people can say whatever they like, but our job is done professionally”, Folashade Odoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said.
