Ekiti State gubernatorial election takes places on June 21.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Friday assured the residents of Ekiti of adequate security for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
Speaking during a brief meeting with the Police Management Team, Mr. Abubakar informed residents of the readiness of the police and other security agencies to provide effective security and ensure a smooth and orderly conduct of the election.
The election will take place on June 21.
Mr. Abubakar also directed the Ekiti State Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Michael Zuokumor, to relocate to Ado-Ekiti, to ensure adequate police presence and coordination of all security operations for the election.
The police chief also warned “all trouble-makers and anti-social elements” to stay away from Ekiti throughout the period of the election.
He said the police would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person who flouts the law or causes a breach of the peace, irrespective of his social or economic status.
He also ordered all police officers assigned to election duties in the state to work in line with the Police Code of Conduct and international best practices.
Mr. Abubakar called on the members of the public, particularly politicians, gubernatorial candidates and other relevant stakeholders in the state, to cooperate with the other security officials to enable a hitch-free gubernatorial poll.
