The Ogun State Police Command tracked a gang of armed robbers through a blackberry phone and arrested five of the bandits.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the gang had earlier robbed a shop at Duduyemi Shopping Complex, Ilese Ijebu, and carted away many phones and items worth N1million belonging to the complainant before they escaped.
He said detectives placed the suspects under surveillance in all areas including social media before one Omobadejo Benjamin who resides in Abeokuta was tracked down with one of the BB PINs and eventually arrested.
Mr. Adejobi further stated that the man had claimed to have bought the Blackberry Curve 3 from one Adebanjo Adeyinka of Soyoye area Abeokuta for N5,000. The seller was subsequently arrested by the police.
The Command spokesman said while conducting a search in Mr. Adeyinka’s house, many phones including blackberry, iPhones, flash drives, modems were recovered from him.
He said the complainant was able to identify the items belonging to him immediately, while Mr. Adeyinka also claimed to have got the items from one Tunde in Lagos.
“The Police detectives proceeded to Lagos where additional 3 suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery,” Mr. Adejobi said.
He said efforts are in top gear to apprehend all suspects connected with the case wherever they are while other stolen items from the shop will be recovered by the police.
“The Commissioner of Police Ikemefuna Okoye has directed the detectives to work hard in order to apprehend other suspects and recover the items while their arms and ammunition are recovered as well.
“The Commissioner also commended the complainant for his cooperation with the police for having a good investigation; and the police detectives attached to Ilese Division for their commitment in carrying out an ICT-Based Investigation, which has been perceived as a welcome
development in the Nigeria Police,” he said.
The Command assured the general public of its commitment to investigate cases brought to the police with all sense of dignity, fairness, and transparency with a view to achieving effective policing of Ogun State.
