All the schools affected are in Osogbo.
The Osun State Government on Thursday shut four private schools in Osogbo, the state capital, for operating illegally.
Lawrence Oyeniran, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, said this in a statement.
The affected schools are; Cornerstone Model College, Riverside International School, Treasure Group of Schools and Greater Love Nursery and Primary School, all in Osogbo.
“Inspection teams observed during the IGR (Internally Generated Revenue) monitoring that some of the illegal schools have been established long before year 2009 without any evidence to show that they were registered.
“Others operated in unconducive environment that can endanger the lives of the students and pupils,’’ the statement said.
It said establishment of schools without proper consultation with the education ministry was “a means to exploit members of the public and dent the image of the government.”
The statement said the ministry would continue to clamp down on illegal private schools that failed to comply with registration procedures.
“The affected schools shall remain sealed under the supervision of Olorunda Local Inspector of Education, pending their clearance by the Ministry of Education,” it said.
