Ondo baby factory: Court grants accused bail

A Federal High Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has granted bail to two accused persons, Happiness Ogundeji and Abiodun Ogundeji.

They were accused of running a baby factory in Ilutuntun, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state. They are being tried for unlawful detention of nine teenage girls.

The trial judge, Mohammed Sani, granted bail to the duo for N10 million each and one surety in like sum. He said the surety must provide original certificates of ownership (Cof O) of landed property within the jurisdiction of the court, and the certificates should be deposited in the registry of the court.

Each of the sureties is also to swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The applicants had filed consolidated application for bail through their lead lawyer, Festus Keyamo, praying the court to admit them to bail pending the final determination of the case.

The court held that the main essence of the bail is to ensure that the applicants are present in court to stand trial.

The case was adjourned till April 8 and 9 for commencement of trial and hearing of another application filed by the suspects.
