Community begs Ogun government for potable water

The Ilushin community in Ogun said the state government pays it no attention.

The indigenes and residents of Ilushin community located in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area have appealed to the state government to provide potable water to the community.

The appeal came on Friday at a Press Conference held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta as the community prepared for its 10th anniversary celebrations

The Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the celebrations, Segun Awonusi, said the community could be described as ‘self-made’ as government’s negligence meant they provided most of their needs themselves.

He said the Ilushin community received little or no government support while it was building its first Community Grammar School in 1963.

“What we are saying is we need development. We will continue to appeal to the government for their support. We need a water project from the government to help the people,” he said.

The committee chairman said neighbouring Lagos State has been making moves to woo the community to become part of Lagos. He, however, said the indigenes would remain part of Ogun State.

“You may have heard that Lagos State has been trying in the past two years that can we cede part of waterside to be part of Lagos so that the OKLNG project and all of that can then easily filter into
“We maintain our own unique identity. We are proud to belong to Ogun State and we will stay in Ogun State and if per-adventure we now have an Ijebu state carved out from Ogun State, we will be
part of Ijebu State”, he said.

He unveiled a week long programme of activities for the anniversary disclosing that the celebration would commence on March 3 and end on March 9.
