A middle age man, identified as Sola, on Sunday lost his life in an auto crash, while preparing for the naming ceremony of his child. The sad incident occurred in Sowoo village along the notorious Kobape-Abeokuta dual carriage way.
The deceased was coming from Lagos and heading towards Ayetoro Town, Yewa South Local Government Area, Ogun State when the driver of the Mazda car in which he was riding, lost control of it. The car somersaulted, plunged into a bush, and struck a tree.
Sola died on the spot, while his friend and driver of the car, Ibrahim, sustained injuries.
Ironically, the deceased had borrowed the Mazda car from a friend in Lagos to convey his wife and new born baby from Ayetoro to Lagos where the baby’s naming ceremony was scheduled for Thursday. The wife was reportedly staying with her mother-in-law in Ayetoro where she put to bed. Sola, who is a barber, had engaged Ibrahim to drive the car.
When PREMIUM TIMES visited the scene of the accident, the car was seemingly damaged beyond repair and blood stained.
Sola and Ibrahim were rushed to State Hospital, Sokenu, Abeokuta where Ibrahim is currently receiving treatment. The remains of Sola were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
When PREMIUM TIMES visited the hospital, the injured man was conscious and narrated what he remembered of the incident.
“I can only recall that the car suddenly swerved off the road, summersaulted and end up hitting a tree. We got trapped and were assisted out by motorists coming behind us. I saw my friend bleeding from both the nose and mouth, before we were brought to the hospital,” Ibrahim said.
Some of the victims’ friends who came to hospital from Lagos confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that deceased was on his way to his hometown to bring his baby and wife back home to Lagos for the naming ceremony.
“”His wife just put to bed in Ayetoro, where she was staying with her husband’s mother. He borrowed the vehicle from another friend and employed the service of Ibrahim, who is a mechanic, to drive the car, but ironically, they had accident and Sola died,” one of the deceased’s friend lamented.
The friend said, on hearing about the accident, they rushed down to Abeokuta from Lagos and thereafter notified the deceased’s family, whom they were waiting for in the hospital to come and get Sola’s remains.
