Party accuses both officials of going against its constitution
The national leadership of Labour Party, LP, has suspended the Ogun State chairman of the party, Simeon Olabode, for allegedly adopting two governorship candidates ahead of the 2015 general elections.
A letter of suspension was handed over to the embattled chairman and his secretary, Sunday Oginni, who allegedly colluded with him to carry out the illegal adoption. Mr. Olabode was also summoned before a disciplinary committee of the party in Ogun State, which would sit on January 15, 2014.
The letter, which was signed by the party’s national secretary, A.A Salam, also accused Mr. Olabode of conniving with his secretary to unconstitutionally and without due process remove from office all party officers in the senatorial districts and local government leaders.
The party headquarters also accused the embattled chairman of purportedly expelling former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, from the party.
“This was given very wide publicity,” the party wrote to Mr. Olabode of Mr. Daniel’s suspension. “As if that was not enough, you together with (..) Olaposi Ogini appeared on radio and television programmes where the person of Otunba Gbenga Daniel was vilified, abused and called unprintable names. The National Working Committee, in exercise of its power under the constitution of the party, decided to suspend you from office pending the outcome of the sitting of the disciplinary committee of the party.”
The party described the action of the two party chieftains as embarrassing.
