The lawmaker threatened to revoke the contract.
The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources has ordered contractors handling the construction and electrification of abattoirs in Akure to complete the projects on schedule or face sanctions.
Joseph Aladetimehin, the Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, gave the directive during an oversight visit on Saturday in Akure.
The construction and electrification of abattoirs in Akure was ongoing, handled by SCNC Technology Ltd and Hek-Bulad Nigeria Ltd respectively.
Mr. Aladetimehin condemned the attitude of some contractors who won contracts, collect mobilisation fees and abandon the projects halfway.
He said the two contractors might be sanctioned by way of termination of the contract if they refused to meet the deadline of December 16 and 20 respectively.
He added that the projects must “be ready for an on-the-spot inspection of the project on December 16 and December 20 respectively.
“The contractor handling the electrification should procure a power generating set before or on December 13, failure to do so will result in sanctions.’’
Responding, the contractor handling the abattoir construction, Dapo Ademosu, apologised for the slow pace of construction and gave assurance that everything humanly possible would be done to make sure that the deadline was met.
The Chairman, Hek-Bulad Nigeria Ltd, Kunle Adelola, the company contracted to handle the electrification of the abattoirs, said he would source for a loan to get the power generator before the deadline.
