Suspect accused victim of having an affair with his wife.
A panel beater, Wasiu Yusuf, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his friend, Adeolu Olatoye, to death in Oke-Efon, Abeokuta.
A second suspect in the case, identified as Mukaila, is currently on the run.
According to the police, Mr. Yusuf claimed that Mr. Olatoye was having an affair his wife and that on the day of his death, the deceased had been caught with the suspect’s wife at the Yusufs’ home.
The suspect also said that he had laid an ambush for the deceased at the suspect’s home; but in the ensuing scuffle, Mr. Olatoye had stabbed himself while trying to stab Mr. Yusuf.
However, according to Mr. Olatoye’s brother, Akinyemi, the victim had gone to Mr. Yusuf’s house to drop an invitation card to his mother 80th birthday, scheduled to holdon Saturday, when the suspect attacked him with bottles.
Mr. Olatoye’s brother confirmed that the suspect and the victim were good friends who lived in the same compound, but he was, however, clueless about the reason for Mr. Yusuf’s attack on his brother.
Mr. Akinyemi also noted that his late brother, who was a graphic artiste, had met his death just two weeks after his child’s naming ceremony. He disclosed that Mr. Olatoye’s remains had been deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary at Ijaiye, Abeokuta, and that the suspect was transferred to Eleweran Police Headquarters for further investigation.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect. He stated that it was a case of murder which would be thoroughly investigated.
