A cult clash between Eiye and Black Axe led to the death of two people in Lagos.
An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a suspected cult member, Adigun Oriyomi, at the Ikoyi Prisons, over the alleged murder of two men.
Mr. Oriyomi, 28, who resides at No.107, Odi-Olowo, Mushin, Lagos, is facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful killing, and belonging to an unlawful society.
The Magistrate, Y.B. Okusanya-Badejo, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody, pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The pleas of the accused were not taken by the court.
The prosecutor, Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the offences were committed on August 30 at about 12.45 p.m. at No. 6, Martins St., Akinyemi Junction, Mushin, Lagos.
He said that the accused was a leader of an unlawful society known as “Eiye Confraternity”, and that he and his members were engaged in a bloody fight with members of a rival group.
Mr. Osuji said that during the fight, guns and other offensive weapons were freely used, which led to the death of two men– Henry Omonmhenle and Ashy Somade– who were members of a rival cult group known as “Black Axe”.
He also said that the accused shot two others, Toheeb Sodiq and Fatai Maja, on their legs.
He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 41, 221, 228 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 221 provides that subject to provisions of any other law, a person who commits murder shall be sentenced to death.
The court adjourned the case till November 19 for mention.
