Two robbers were killed in a gun duel with the police in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday announced the killing of two highway armed robbers and declared that it would make the state hell for armed robbers and other criminals.
The robbers, the police said, were killed along Omu/Epe Highway in Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
The Ogun State police commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, said in Abeokuta that as part of the command’s genuine efforts to rid the state off criminals, it has intensified patrol on major highways in the state with the use of the Distress Call Patrol Vans released to the command by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, and the Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, donated by the Ogun State Government.
Mr. Okoye expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their commitment towards the Police/Public Partnership to achieve effective policing of the state.
As regards the men that were killed, the police boss said that the Anti Crime Patrol Team attached to the Odogbolu Division of the Ogun State Police Command led by Eludini Akinola engaged some armed robbers in a gun duel along Omu/Epe highway in Ijebu Area of Ogun State.
The gun battle, Mr. Okoye said, occurred on Wednesday at about 2 p.m. while suspects robbed some commuters. Two of the gunmen were killed while three others escaped with bullet wounds.
Mr. Okoye said that one AK 47 rifle, two locally made pistols, live cartridges, 19 rounds of ammunition and charms were recovered from the bandits.
The Commissioner assured residents that the police will make Ogun State hell for robbers and hoodlums who want to jeopardise the security of lives and property in the state.
