The state government intends provide free quality education.
The Commissioner for Education in Ogun, Segun Odubela, said the state government would upgrade facilities in its schools to make the environment more conducive to learning.
Mr. Odubela stated this at the presentation of prizes won by Iganmode Grammar School (Senior) at Ota in Ado/Odo Local Government Area at this year’s Annual Cowbell National Mathematics competition for secondary Schools in Nigeria.
He said the state government placed priority on education and was doing everything possible to ensure free, qualitative and affordable education in the state.
“It is a clear fact that our free, qualitative and affordable education policy in the state has been yielding positive results, and I’m assuring you that it will continue to yield more. Part of the results is what we see today. For the first time in the history of Cowbell National Mathematics competition in Nigeria, public school students of Iganmode grammar School, Ota, won the overall best prize for three consecutive years – 2011, 2012 and 2013,” he said.
He said the outstanding performance could be attributed to government’s effort in providing good learning environment and continuous capacity building workshop for teachers.
The state also engaged competent and qualified teachers, provided free textbooks and instructional materials for students, he added.
The Principal of Iganmode Grammar School, Timothy Obalalenge, attributed the outstanding performances to the student’s dedication to their studies and the teacher’s commitment to duty.
The effective leadership and conducive learning environment created by the government also contributed to the success, he added.
