The cultists were also identified as notorious hoodlums.
The Ogun State Police Command arrested five alleged cultists during a celebration at about 1.30 a.m. on Monday in Igbesa Town.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed to PREMIUM TIMES in Abeokuta on Tuesday that the police’ anti-crime team led by the Divisional Police Officer from Agbara, Ayo Sonubi, had placed the suspects under surveillance due to the intelligence report sent by the command’s intelligence bureau in the area on the deadly plans of the gang.
He said the cultists, who have also been identified as hoodlums engaging in nefarious activities in the area, gave their names as Ojo Razak (28), Abioye Ismail (22), Oladapo Akala,(21), Oluwaseun Adegboyega(24) and Orepodun John (20).
In another development, the anti-crime patrol in Agbara arrested some suspects who gained access to a company in Agbara, stealing raw materials worth N3.5 million on Monday at about 12.30 a.m.
The suspects include: Oluyemi Ayodeji (26), Omololu Odedina (22), Opeyemi Bolarinwa (24) and Kabiru Iyanda (38).
The police said the gang had help from some workers in the company who had even recruited help to load the stolen goods onto a truck. The suspects, who had fled the scene before the arrival of the police team, were chased and later arrested along Atan/Agbara road. The goods and the truck with registration number XY 862 FKJ were recovered by the police.
“All the suspects arrested will soon be transferred to the State CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution,” the spokesman said.
