The FRSC said the mobile court would be a continuous operation.
A mobile court engaged by the Osun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Saturday convicted 31 traffic offenders.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Imoh Etuk, said in Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government Area that the move was to curb reckless driving by motorists.
Mr. Etuk said the court, presided by Ademola Ayeni, a senior magistrate, convicted 31 traffic offenders, comprising motorists and motorcyclists, during the operation on Osogbo-Gbongan road.
He said the convicts were charged with offences such as reckless driving, making telephone calls while driving, over speeding, overloading, not wearing crash helmets or not using seat belts.
“The convicts were, however, given option of fines ranging between N2, 000 and N5, 000 instead of sentencing them to prison terms, while one of the offenders was cautioned and discharged,” M. Etuk said.
Mr. Etuk urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations, stressing that the commission would not fold its arms and watch careless drivers waste the lives of innocent people. He said the exercise would be continuous and appealed to road users to help reduce accidents in the country.
