Court remands four teenagers in Ikoyi Prison over alleged murder of their friend

The pleas of the accused were not taken.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded four teenagers in the Ikoyi Prison for the alleged murder of their friend, Mustapha Abubakar, 17.

The Chief Magistrate, S.O. Solebo, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the State of Director of Public Prosecutions.

The accused, Idowu Adesunloye, 18; Wasiu Adeyemi, 19; Kehinde Rasaki, 18; and Endurance Lawal, 18, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful killing. Their pleas were not taken by the court.

The prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odigie, said that the crime was committed on June 7 at Iloro, Dopemu Agege, Lagos. He said that the accused and the deceased, who were friends, had a misunderstanding on that day.

“There was a fight between the accused and the deceased and in the process, the deceased was stabbed with a sharp object and was later confirmed dead,’’ M. Odigie said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 221 provides death sentence as the penalty for murder.

The court adjourned the case till July 27 for mention.
