A toddler and an under-aged girl were also among the victims.

The Police Command in Ekiti on Wednesday said seven rape cases were recorded in various parts of the state in the first half of June alone.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Babayemi, made this known when he presented the suspects to journalists in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Babayemi said that a three-year-old toddler was among the victims that were defiled during the period under review.

According to him, a case of rape was reported on June 10 to the command at Illawe-Ekiti division against two brothers. He said that the two suspects, under false pretence, accosted the victim while she was on her way home and defiled her.

He said another case of defilement occurred on same date when someone, through a distress call informed the command that one of the suspects allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl.

The victim was a student, while the accused was the proprietor of the school.

Mr. Babayemi said other rape cases involving the remaining four suspects were reported at both Ado-Ekiti and Illawe-Ekiti on June 12.

He called on residents to be weary of neighbours, strange persons, and the type of school they send their children or wards.
