Barricades will be erected to ensure compliance, the Ogun state Commissioner of Information said.
The Ogun State Government has said that trucks weighing more than five tons will, from June 10, no longer be allowed to pass through the Ibara flyover in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Mr. Olaniyonu said barricades will be erected on the necessary portions of the bridge to ensure compliance. He said the decision is not only to ensure the durability of the bridge but also ensure safety of motorists in line with international practices.
The bridge was built by the present administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun. It remains the first to be built in Abeokuta, since the creation of the state over thirty years ago.
