8-man robbery gang arrested in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday announced the arrest of eight armed robbery suspects known to have been terrorising residents of Ilepa and Ifo communities of Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun state.

The police said the apprehended suspects specialised in car snatching, shop breaking as well as other criminal activities; and have confessed to their crimes.

In a statement, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that the eight robbery suspects arrested were members of the gang which has in recent time terrorized the Ifo community and its neighbourhood.

The police spokesperson said several ammunition, which included two locally made pistols, Honda Accord (EOD) car, as well as a Toyota Camry with registration number (Lagos) AU 255 KRD were recovered from the suspects.

The Command said it arrested some of the suspects at Ilepa axis of Ifo Town inside the Honda car with registration number (Lagos) AY 26 EPE which they had snatched at Quary area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

He also added that the confessional statement of two of the suspects led to the arrest of the six others who were eventually picked up at different locations in Abeokuta and Ibadan in neighbouring Oyo State.

The command, while assuring the people of the state of safety of lives and property, also appealed to victims of the operations of the suspects and members of the public, particularly in Ifo Township to cooperate with police investigators so as to ensure that justice prevails.
