The offence was allegedly committed on May 19.
The police in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday dragged one Taye Bamidele before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged defilement.
The police prosecutor, Monica Ikubuilo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 19 at 22, Odo Aremu street, Ado-Ekiti.
She said that the accused forcefully had sex with a 13-year-old girl, causing her serious injuries. The offence, she said, contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, David Njoku, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused, promising that he would not jump bail.
The prosecutor, however, objected to the bail application on the ground that the accused might jump bail.
Magistrate Olufunke Ajibade granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum who must be a civil servant on grade level 13.
She adjourned the case till July 8 for further hearing.
