The Ondo State government suspended the funding to avoid corruption.
The Ondo state Government has suspended the release of the Cocoa Development Fund which it gives to farmers, in order to avoid embezzlement.
The Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Agriculture, Bankole Ogunsuyi, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing reporters in Akure, the capital city.
Mr. Ogunsuyi said that the step became necessary because the leadership of the Farmers Congress allegedly colluded to open a new bank account for the fund without the knowledge of the ministry of agriculture which supervises the union.
He said that the sum of N7 million had within the last three months been withdrawn by leaders of the farmers without the knowledge of the ministry.
“We decided to withhold the fund because of the fraud we detected and we have warned the farmers to resolve the crisis in the union,” he noted.
He called on farmers to unite saying that the next authentic leaders would be the ones to open the account.
