Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola

The affected schools also operated without government approval.

The Osun Government on Wednesday closed down two private schools; Toluwalase Nursery and Primary School and Motiloola Nursery and Primary School in Ile-Ife, Ife East Local Government Area, for allegedly using dilapidated buildings.

The affected schools were also accused of operating without government approval.

The State Internally Generated Revenue Monitoring Team executed the action on the order of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Olufemi Fawole.

The development is the latest by the team which had visited more than 30 private schools across the six zonal education offices, according to Mr. Fawole.

Mr. Fawole who said that teaching and learning must be done in line with standards and best practises for better understanding and assimilation, expressed surprise at the deplorable state of the schools.

On the drive for IGR, the Permanent Secretary acknowledged the cooperation of some of the private school owners for prompt payment of renewal and registration fees.

He advised owners of defaulting private schools to ensure prompt payment of both approval and renewal of registration fees within a week or face sanctions.
