The election tribunal sitting in Ondo State had upheld the election of Olusegun Mimiko.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, candidate in the October 2012 governorship poll in Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, said on Friday that he would appeal the Election Petition Tribunal’s judgment.
After months of hearings based on petitions filed by Mr. Akeredolu and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olusola Oke, against the election of the Labour Party candidate, Olusegun Mimiko, the three-man tribunal, headed by Justice Andovar Kaka’an sitting in Akure had upheld the election of Mr. Mimiko.
The tribunal dismissed the petitions of Messrs Akeredolu and Oke based on what it called, lack of merit.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Mr. Akeredolu urged the people of the state and party members to be keep hope alive and remain steadfast and law abiding.
He said philosophically, “The thunder is not raining. We are going on appeal and definitely, we will meet at the Phillippi. To the people of Ondo State, please keep hope alive because hope is on the way.”
In contrast, Kolawole Olabisi, the Director of Publicity of the Mimiko Campaign Organisation, hailed the verdict and described the judiciary as the peoples’ hope.
“We are grateful that the tribunal has just affirmed the victory of Gov. Olusegun Mimiko. We are calling on politicians in the state to work together in the interest of our state. It is obvious that you lose some and win some,” he said.
